Broco® Wet Welding Standard

Broco® Underwater’s SofTouch is the standard for commercially available mild and stainless steel wet welding electrodes. SofTouch welds consistently meet or exceed AWS D3.6-83/89 specifications for Type B welds, the American Welding Society’s standard for certifying underwater welds. Designed to pass all AWS test requirements, including radiograph, bends and hardness, SofTouch has become the wet welding electrode welding engineers specify.

Cerifiable Welds Are Easier
Use the BR-20 Welding Stinger w/ SofTouch and wet welding is easy. Whether the self-consuming or manipulative technique is utilized, these smooth running electrodes require little or no pressure. SofTouch electrodes produce a hotter arc, resulting in better flow, correct penetration and a higher deposition rate. Broco’s proprietary binary flux coating effectively reduces gaseous oxygen and hydrogen from the arc atmosphere, diminishing hydrogen cracking occurrence. SofTouch’s superior waterproofing allows the electrodes to be submerged for extended periods of time without experiencing the water penetration that causes flux to blow off. SofTouch stands for quality wet welds, done right the first time in any position. Whether the diver is making permanent repairs to offshore structures, harbor installations or oceangoing vessels, quality welds equate to reduced time and money spent doing the job.

Proven Performance
Since 1986, SofTouch has been listed on the ANU (Approved for Navy Use) list. US Navy Diving Commands and Navy Shipyards have been using SofTouch for repair and maintenance on Naval vessels worldwide. SofTouch stainless steel electrodes are produced w/ full traceability according to ASME requirements, including appropriate certificates. SofTouch is the right choice for in-situ repairs in nuclear facilities, or other applications where steel must be joined according to code specifications. BR-20 Welding Stinger

The BR-20 Welding Stinger is designed to hold the electrode at the optimum angle to the weld-piece, delivering quality welds while reducing operator fatigue. Lightweight and durable, the handle and head are made of high impact thermoplastic. All internal components are brass. The BR-20 will last for literally hundreds of arc-hours without experiencing electrolytic corrosion. Designed to accept a wide range of electrode diameters, the BR-20 Welding Stinger meets Mil-H-865D and is Approved for Navy Use (ANU).

SofTouch Wet Welding Electrodes

Broco® Underwater’s SofTouch electrodes produce wet welds that meet or exceed AWS D3.6-83/89 in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead). SofTouch mild and stainless steel electrodes are available in 1/8”, 5/32” and 3/16” diameters. SofTouch Wet Welding Electrodes are sealed in a Mil-Spec foil pouch to prevent contamination. The electrodes are then packaged in a rigid resealable plastic tube which provides maximum protection. The color-coded end cap denotes mild or stainless steel electrodes. Material Safety Data information and operating guidelines are printed on the label.
